frankee l thunder horse

frankee l thunder horse died at the age of 8. she died forty years early than the average life expectancy for indian men: 48. women's average life expectancy is just slightly higher with 52 years. indian ranger tony wounded head at the southern badlands visitor center explained that indians suffer from malnutrition. he says government provided free food containes cheap junk only and the food stamps that can be turned into any food are barely exchanged for fresh veggies and fruit. the biggest supermarket in the region at pine ridge city made us go through a labyrinth of aisles with frozen fried stuff and microwaveable bags. a managed to buy three sad looking tomatoes and an overpriced package of deli turkey meat. we tried to eat our freshly made tomatoe and turkey sandwich on the curb in front of the supermarket but were obviously such a sight for the locals that they asked if we are preparing fresh food for the community. after two of the wild straying dogs sniffed on our turkey we decided to leave.
tony wounded head also affirmed in gestures off the record that much of the other government given money to the indians is spend for smoking and drinking. posters in the pine ridge chamber of commerce advertised help for pregnant alcoholic women.
