the snow storms' hangover

as highly anticipated by all washingtonians, city life returned to near-normalcy today. most are happy to escape the cabin fever that build up over the past week. even federal employees were expected to report to work (albeit delayed and voluntary).

except for the derailed train cars on the red line at farragut square, metro rail and buses were running for the most part. (the washington post reported only three minor injuries among the 345 people who were trapped)

i could finally return to my routine of walking to work. it was more of an adventure than usual. i still. had to battle all gradations between cleared, wide and dry sidewalks on the one hand and completely stomped-down snowy, black icy, and narrow pathways.

but the sun was shining, warming my face and making me toasty as i trudged along. the normal sight of the morning traffic jam accompanied me along my way. only the huge puddles of dirty water and icy slush from the melting snow were really annoying.

plus, i took the chance to increase my karma today. i helped an elderly woman of hispanic descent who was stranded on her rear in one of the not so tidied up sections of the pedestrians realm. alas, she was quite inflexible too move and heavier than thought. so with me pulling on one arm and another girl pulling on the second, plus a third person assisting, we could get her on her feet again. she didn't speak english but looked thankful.

nothing like a hike in the morning with npr in my ears. it's good the hangover has begun so that dc can recover. and i can walk again.
