getting ready for normal

after a second round of digging out the car from the snow, the drive with the car turned out to be easier than after the first storm snow. the roads shimmered black from underneath the slushy ice bits -- did someone actually plough during the night?

this time we also stayed on 14th street instead of turning onto one of these adventurous white pot-holed side roads.

the road was slushy but there was quite a bit of traffic. buses remained suspended before noon (and as of this writing only some lines returned to the streets); the metro ran only underground and very tardy (and i heard the red line didn't operate until later in the day). nevertheless, in the morning saw two brave individuals at two separate bus stops waiting. i hope they were just resting from the still cumbersome walk on uncleared side walks.
and, lo and behold, we saw a working plough truck.

but federal offices remained closed today [thursday].

looking outside, life should return to normalcy tomorrow or at least over the weekend.
but given that president's day -- a federal holiday -- is peaking around the corner on monday it will probably take until tuesday until this hiatus of dc life is over.
