to the zoo

on my growing list of dc sights that is nourished by advice from friends, the zoo has been endorsed intensely. for one thing because it's free. enjoying a sunny saturday, i thought i would walk-work myself through the city from the central north hostel home where i am staying (and will elaborate on later) down to the northerly western "smithsonian national zoological park".

little did i know that the route i had chosen via paper map would lead me into one of the motley area known as "columbia and 18th" as a historical/city tour marker informed me. minority after minority lived in the area leaving its marks. mixed couples of all color, cuisine of each culture, and a babylonian symphony of tongues.

super tacos, pasteles, and baked goods,

combined with bowls of chinese steaming soup

a peruvian taste of ceviche (chopped fish)

and "german" kohlrabi sold in the tiniest farmer's market i've visited with only two vendors

but with a great consciousness about plastic bags (in english and spanish).

followed by afghan grilled goods next to a french café au lait.

and topped organic traditional indian food.

anyone hungry yet?
make sure you bring your nifty fingers and chop sticks apart from dictionaries.
