as i am a list freak here's an update on mundane stuff that i miss from germany and things that i have found in ohiolittle things lost
1. quark...nowhere to be found if not in own kitchen after experimenting with butter milk (see quarkkuchen post -- still in the making)
2. tatort-sonntage...though the show is available ulteriorly the whole experience of sitting there with friends, gummibears, and posting guesses at 9 P.M. is lost in translation
3. gummi bears and knusperflocken...no comment
4. fountain pen...seen as calligraphic tool rather than daily necessity it's not easy for a fountain pen freak to find new supplies
5. fountain pen ink cartridges...dito
6. vegetarian zwiebel-apfel-schmalz
little things found
1. the miracles of what you can produce in your own kitchen with simple ingredients and tools
(the other side of the quark story soon to be told)
2. old pickles... a 100 % substitute for salzgurken
3. kitchen aid...instead of hand held mixing device
4. fresh corn...mmmhhh
5. bean casserole with mushroom soup and crispy onions...probably my favorite u.s. homy food
6. regular intake of guacamole and crackers
